The Letter of Undertaking (LUT) is a legal document filed by exporters of goods or services to allow them to export without the payment of Integrated GST (IGST). By filing an LUT, a business saves its working capital, as it does not have to pay tax upfront and wait months for a refund. It is an annual filing that must be completed at the start of every financial year. If a business fails to file the LUT but still exports without tax, the department can treat those exports as taxable and demand tax plus interest.
